For decades a majority of the 13,000 cabs in the New York City fleet have been Ford vehicles. They’ve long stood up to the savage street traffic and potholes of the Big Apple to deliver tourists and residents all over the city. The Escape Hybrid, Crown Victoria and, more recently, Taurus, are all part of the yellow wave that greets you when you need a ride. Now a rising star has joined the fleet for a two-year run on the Great White Way. The city’s Taxi & Limousine Commission recently ordered up more than 400 Transit Connect cabs. “We have Transit Connect taxis in service across the country. People tell us they love its spaciousness and its fuel efficiency,” says Mark Fields, Ford executive vice president. Welcome to New York!
